FC Augsburg Turns Its Textile History Into a 2026/27 Third Shirt

FC Augsburg has found its latest football shirt in an unexpected piece of local history: the loom.

The club’s new third shirt for the 2026/27 season draws from Augsburg’s long relationship with textile production, translating a chapter of the city’s industrial past into a football jersey with a distinctly woven character.

Augsburg was once one of Germany’s major textile centres. At the height of the industry, more than 20,000 people worked across roughly two dozen large factories with international operations, alongside a dense network of smaller manufacturers and workshops. The scale of the business earned Augsburg comparisons with Manchester, while the former industrial district where much of this activity was concentrated remains known as the Textile Quarter.

For FC Augsburg CEO Michael Ströll, the shirt completes this season’s kit collection while keeping the club firmly connected to its home city.

“I particularly like this one because it takes inspiration from Augsburg’s textile history and reinterprets it in a modern way,” Ströll said. “It also reflects the close connection between FCA and the city it represents.”

The campaign was photographed at the State Textile and Industry Museum Augsburg, or tim, an institution dedicated to the city’s textile history, design, art and craftsmanship. The location also became part of the production itself: fabric used during the shoot was produced on the museum’s own looms.

The shirt carries that connection into its construction. Made from breathable jacquard fabric, its surface features a woven check pattern with a pronounced texture, taking its visual cue from Augsburg’s Weberhaus, a building closely tied to the city’s weaving tradition.

Red, green and white establish the main colour scheme, with dark green edging around the collar and sleeve cuffs. A buttoned crew neck introduces a more traditional detail, while the embroidered FCA crest and Mizuno logo are rendered in white alongside the partner branding. The number “1907” sits at the back of the neck, marking the club’s founding year, while “FC Augsburg” comes pre-printed across the back.

The shirt goes on sale today, September 18, at the FCA stores inside WWK ARENA and on Maximilianstraße, the City-Galerie pop-up store and the VR Bank branch on Annastraße.

The adult version costs €89.95 and is available from S to 3XL. The children’s shirt is priced at €69.95, with sizes ranging from 116 to 164.

Its first appearance on the pitch will come away at SV Werder Bremen, giving Augsburg’s textile past a new setting: under stadium lights, surrounded by 22 players and thousands of spectators.
