PUMA and A$AP Rocky Push Sneaker Design into Alien Territory

PUMA and A$AP Rocky are continuing their increasingly experimental design partnership with the release of the Mostro 3.D Mule, a futuristic reinterpretation of one of the brand’s most unconventional archival silhouettes. Blending performance heritage with contemporary fashion experimentation, the new design pushes the original Mostro into far more radical territory.

First previewed during A$AP Rocky’s New York Fashion Week presentation earlier this year, the shoe arrives as a bold reworking of PUMA’s 1999 Mostro, a model long known for its aggressive proportions and cult status among sneaker enthusiasts. This latest version strips the silhouette down to a backless mule while amplifying its visual impact through advanced 3D-printing technology and exaggerated sculptural detailing.

The result feels closer to wearable industrial design than a conventional sneaker. Defined by its jagged, spike-like textures and alien geometry, the Mostro 3.D Mule transforms the familiar slip-on format into something deliberately confrontational. It retains the rebellious energy of the original while introducing a more experimental, fashion-forward sensibility aligned with Rocky’s aesthetic universe.

Two versions are being released. One embraces maximalism through a vivid electric blue gradient that fades into black, punctuated by red accents that give the impression of pigment bleeding across the surface. The second adopts a monochrome black finish, allowing the silhouette’s dramatic form and architectural structure to take center stage without distraction.

With this collaboration, PUMA continues to position archival sportswear within a broader design conversation, while Rocky reinforces his role as a cultural figure comfortable moving between music, fashion, and product experimentation. The Mostro 3.D Mule is less about functional minimalism and more about attitude, a deliberately provocative object built for those who prefer their footwear to make a statement before they say a word.
