Adidas Pushes 3D-Printed Footwear Further With the New Climacool

Heat has never been a reason to compromise on design. With the arrival of its latest Climacool release, Adidas continues to challenge the conventions of footwear, presenting a silhouette where digital fabrication, industrial design and performance converge into a single uninterrupted form.

More than two decades after the original Climacool introduced a new approach to breathability, the FW26 Climacool Laced reinterprets the concept through additive manufacturing. Rather than assembling separate components, the shoe is printed as one continuous structure, allowing its architecture to emerge directly from the production process itself.

At its core lies an intricate lattice constructed from ultra-light synthetic material, engineered to deliver unrestricted airflow from every direction while reducing unnecessary weight. Upper and midsole share the same material language, eliminating conventional transitions and creating a seamless body that would be nearly impossible to achieve through traditional manufacturing.

Comfort is treated as a consequence of geometry rather than excess cushioning. Produced using Adidas‘ Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) technology, each pair is built layer by layer during an approximately 24-hour printing cycle. The resulting cellular framework distributes pressure, promotes ventilation and provides structural support simultaneously, allowing the shoe to adapt closely to the foot with remarkable precision. According to the brand, it is the lightest Climacool model produced to date.

The latest colour palette highlights the complexity of the printed construction instead of concealing it. Accents of Solar Turbo, an intense electric pink, punctuate the black framework, drawing attention to the rhythm of the lattice and revealing the logic behind every printed layer. Nothing feels decorative for its own sake; every visual decision originates from the manufacturing process itself.

More than a seasonal update, the FW26 Climacool Laced reflects the direction in which contemporary footwear continues to evolve. Here, engineering is no longer hidden beneath the surface but becomes the aesthetic language of the object itself, allowing production, function and design to exist as one continuous expression.
